He just gave her a look that implied on him calling her out on this bluff of her relaxing,he didn’t fully trust it but for now he would take her word for it and let her be as he pulled the blanket over her. “Yea…I will let ya know…sheesh you military types are stubborn…”,he said to her as he left the room,”makes ya wonder why ya chose me”,he muttered.

“Mmmm. You were a military type too…” She was slowly drifting off to sleep as he walked off. She kept herself awake long enough to send him one last retort, voice soft and barely coherent. “Love, I chose you because you were a breath of fresh air…” Soon her voice drifted into silence, leaving the thought incomplete. Her breathing evened out and the last of her tension eased away.

“I know, dear… I won’t go anywhere. But you’re going to have one grouchy wife to deal with for a while.” She managed a slight chuckle before beginning to relax again. It was hard to concentrate past the haze of pain, but it was still soothing enough to be near him and laying in bed with the ice over her shoulder. She felt her body easing up and her will to speak was getting less. “I think… I’m gonna nap… can you let me know when you’ve made food?”

“Just be careful, dear. I don’t want us both out of commission.” She sighed and flopped back onto the bed, which jostled her shoulder. She hissed in pain and gritted her teeth. After a moment, it passed, and she closed her eyes. A hum escaped her throat. “I know, I know. I just don’t want to lay around, even though I have to.”

“Why would I be creepy….we are married darlin’…”,he said feeling a little upset by that remark and just sighed as he made sure the rag was still doing well on her shoulders. “Okay then”,he said while sitting next to her giving her a wink,”…if it gets bad I can just strip ya down and massage ya”.

“I didn’t mean it like that, darling, just…” She sighed, getting exasperated from the pain and her shift in attitude. She rarely handled these situations well. She could deal with others when they were hurt, but she often became unbearable when she was the one who was hurt. She chuckled a little at his last remark. “I think we’d best wait a while for this to set up before you do that. Don’t want to make it worse.”

“Nnnn. Yeah.” She didn’t really protest as he removed her bow and jacket. To be honest, she knew it wasn’t worth going back to work right now. It would just make things worse on her. “I know just how badly I screwed up—” She paused, groaning a little as the icy rag was placed on her shoulder. “But if I don’t get the swelling under control, it’ll do permanent damage. I just need to keep it iced for a few days, bandage it up, make sure it’s not jostled.”
